Class city project

Subject : Maths (PYP 5)

Strand :
Space and shape (2-D and 3-D shapes)
Measurement (perimeter and area)
Number (multiplication and division)

Purpose :
To combining some topics, there are : 2-D shapes, 3-D shapes, perimeter and area in to one project.

Learning steps :
1. Students have to apply their skills to draw some 2-D shapes (rectangle, square, parallelogram, trapezoid, triangle) using a pair of compass. Students start to draw a perpendicular lines before they draw some 2-D shapes.

2. Students should understand the 3-D shapes properties, how to draw the 3-D shapes net, especially pyramid and prism (the based are rectangle, square and triangle) and how to build the 3-D shapes in to the real object.

3. Students apply their area and perimeter skills, by make a building based on the area provided. They should calculate carefully because the have to put at least 4 2-D shapes and 2 3-D shapes in their project.

4. Students show their creativity by arrange their project neatly and put some equipment to support their project.

Class City Learning Journey

Assessment for class cityClass city learning journey.

Subject : Maths (PYP 5)
Strand :
Numbers ( fraction, decimal and percentages)

Learning outcomes :
To be able to convert from fraction to decimal, fraction to percentages, and decimal to percentages
Learning engagement :
• Students find the same value of the numbers, Then they have to explain how they find the number with the same value, such as : ½ = 0,5 = 50 %. This activity to put the students in a group to discuss how to convert percentages, decimals and fractions.

• Review the percentages, decimals and fractions vocabulary (http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html)

• Class discussion using Ms. PPt how to convert percentages into decimals and fractions and vice versa.

• Students do the activity based on their group task,

Group A : find the same value of the number by memory game ( for above level)

Group B : find the same value of the number by domino (for average level)

For middle level

For middle level

Group C : find the same value of the number by using pictures (for low level)
(using smart board)

Convert fractions, decimals and percentagesGroup C : find the same value of the number by using pictures (for low level)
(using smart board)

• With teacher guided, students will practice to convert from fraction to decimal, fraction to percentages, and decimal to percentages (worksheet)

• Group discussion some strategies that the students use to find the answer, then each group sharing the discussion result.

• Hands on :
Students fill in the fraction bar that show the connection between percentages, decimals and fractions.
